How hard is the water in Tangmere?
Water hardness reading:
260ppm (moderate to very hard)
Tangmere residents experience hard water
Homes in Tangmere that aren’t fitted with a water softener will be subjected to hard water. It’s all down to the underground chalky bedrock that covers much of Sussex and beyond. Rainwater is soft by nature, but as soon as it seeps into the bedrock, which is full of hard water-causing calcium and magnesium minerals, the water’s natural softness disappears.
Hard water is a problem for many reasons. Skin and hair react badly to constant hard water exposure, as it removes their natural softness and vibrancy. Dry skin conditions, particularly ailments like eczema and dermatitis, are worsened by hard water. Softened water on tap will provide respite – the softer the water, the better it is for skin and hair. And clothing, towels and bed linen will all appear softer and smoother if they aren’t regularly washed in hard water.
Limescale is also caused by hard water. It will collect relentlessly on any wet kitchen and bathroom surfaces. Water softeners prevent the scale from forming. Limescale is also a nightmare for central heating systems; it blocks up pipework and water tanks. A system forever exposed to scale will waste huge amounts of energy, simply to keep producing the right levels of heat and hot water for your home – resulting in unnecessarily high energy bills. Soft water= reduced fuel costs and a healthy, long-lasting boiler.
Tangmere has a water hardness reading of about 260 parts per million (ppm). That’s high, bearing in mind any measurement over 200 ppm is deemed to be hard. An efficient, cost-effective Scott Jenkins Water Softener in your home will bring that reading down to virtually zero.
