Case Study –
Royal Garden Hotel, Bognor Regis
Client – Royal Garden Hotel, Bognor Regis
Summary
The Royal Garden Hotel is located in Aldwick on the western fringe of Bognor Regis, with commanding sea views. Modern and purpose built, the 29-room property is registered with the Care Quality Commission as a Residential Care Home and accommodates 36 people.
Given the hardness of water in the Bognor Regis area, the current owners had a water softener installed in 1991, when they opened the Care Home. By 2018, the existing softener had started to fail and the original installer had retired. The owners then decided to bring in Scott Jenkins Water Softeners, to install a new commercial grade water softener.
Key objective
The overriding objective for having the water softener installed was to prolong the lifespan of the Care Home’s main appliances, particularly its two large Andrews water heaters. The water softener prevents limescale build up in the heaters, which are capable of heating up to 20 gallons of water every 10-15 minutes.
The facility contains a large 3000 litre capacity tank in the roof and a smaller pump-fed tank on the ground floor, to help provide a consistent level of softened water for the hotel’s residents.
Equipment installed
- 1 x Scott Jenkins Water Softener (commercial)
- Salt Usage – 3 bags per week
- Service and maintenance – once a year
The conclusion
Julian Lindsell, the owner of the Royal Garden Hotel, said the Scott Jenkins Water Softener offers effective, money-saving protection for the heating system against hard water-causing limescale build-up. At the same time, the residents benefit from a reliable level of soft water throughout the care home – in baths, washing machines, showers etc.
“With unsoftened water, the lifespan of our water heaters would be between 3 and 5 years. The water softener has at least doubled that lifespan as we haven’t had to change either of our heaters now for the last 14 years,” Julian commented. “For any care home operating in a hard water area, it makes economic sense to have a water softener. At the present rate of performance, we are saving ourselves at least £1000 a year.”
