When customers make enquiries about having a water softener installed in their property, there are some who are under the impression that we will need to make a special visit to carry out a site survey.

You might be surprised to learn that this isn’t actually the case. There really is no need for us to come to your home to conduct a survey prior to installing your new water softener.

Why years of experience installing water softeners is important

Unlike property surveyors, who carry out structural surveys on buildings to see if they are subject to subsidence, riddled with cracks or the windows are about to fall out, in comparison, the process of hooking up a water softener to your existing pipework and plumbing is far less problematic.

Yes, you might have quite a small kitchen, or masses of bathrooms, or miles of rickety pipes heading off in all directions that were assembled many years ago by some contortionist plumber. Believe me, I’ve seen some crazy plumbing in my time! But, however complicated and unfathomable it may all seem at first glance, fundamentally it is still pipework – pure and simple.

Given my background as a plumber and the many years I have subsequently spent running Scott Jenkins Water Softeners, I know from a breadth of experience installing water softeners, that it isn’t necessary to carry out a full-blown, pre-installation inspection.

If you are worried that this all sounds a bit cavalier and that we are taking short-cuts by not pre-inspecting your pipework, where the cupboards are located in your kitchen and where the mains water enters your property, we can put your mind at rest – all this can be sorted out on the day you take delivery of your water softener.

How technology assists in water softener installation

Technology is a wonderful thing. What with smartphones, Whatsapp, email etc., at-distance decision making has never been easier.

Covid-19 doesn’t have a lot going for it but, if there is one thing that it has taught us all, is how to adapt to working efficiently remotely, utilising the wonderful communication tools at our disposal. This is to everyone’s benefit. Many of our customers have embraced the idea of sending in pictures of their   kitchens, in addition to engaging in calls on Whatsapp or FaceTime. We don’t need to be in the same room as you, in order to build up an accurate picture of your requirements and prepare a quote.

If it’s not on the van, then I’m a banana!

OK, you might say, what if we turn up unprepared, because we haven’t been to the property first off, to figure out what will be required to do the job properly?  Well, over the course of the last five years, I can think of only one occasion when I have had to leave an installation because I haven’t had the right materials on hand, and I’ve had to go off to pick up a part. It’s extremely rare for this to happen.

When we head out to your property, we make sure that everything we could possibly need is on the van – for good reason. If you’ve had a tradesman round to install something, who then disappears for hours on end to pick up a widget from a builders’ merchant, you’ll know how frustrating and probably costly it can be. You’ll be left there twiddling your thumbs when you’ve probably got plenty of better things to do.

We make sure we avoid all that. One visit, and one visit only, is really all it should take to install your water softener. Like good scouts – we are always prepared.

The fixed installation cost is £350 for all water softeners 15mm and 22mm £450 for 28mm installations, apart from the MolliVita where installation is free. Whether we are there for 2 hours or 2 days, these prices will never change. You have our promise!

We take pride in the water softener service we provide – before, during and long after the installation

As a new customer making your initial enquiry with us, you’ll find that we have a tried and tested system in place that will take care of everything you need, in order for you to make an informed decision prior to proceeding. It’s fair to say, we find the majority of our customers will have already done a fair amount of research about what they want and how much they would wish to pay. But even if you are somewhat in the dark and are looking for a guiding hand to clarify a range of issues, we are well-positioned to help.  If you haven’t done so already, please have a good browse of our website Knowledge Centre and the Product and Shop Sections for our full portfolio of products. This should give you a good idea of how we work and what we sell.

But don’t be shy about giving us a call or sending an email enquiry, if you would prefer.

Kristie, our Customer Services Manager, will most likely be your first point of contact and she will be able to assist you with all your questions. If you have any queries relating to price, products etc. – all this can be covered.  And with the help of smart phones and other technology, we always encourage customers to send in pictures of the location where the water softener will be installed

From this, we can build up a healthy picture of the best softener for your needs – avoiding any repetition of site visits.

Looking forward to a future with soft water
