Having a Water Softener Installed is Very Straightforward

Monday, March 09, 2020

We are often asked if it is difficult to fit a water softener system. The answer is – no, it isn’t. In fact, it’s actually quite straightforward (at least in the vast majority off situations).

Trying to fit one yourself isn’t something we’d recommend, however, but with SJ Water Softeners, you can leave it to us to ensure everything is handled efficiently, safely and with professionalism.

Having been involved in this industry for a number of years, we are extremely knowledgeable about water softener systems but we also have the distinct advantage of being qualified plumbers. This means we are up-to-speed with all the latest industry and installation regulations and have proven technical capability.

Fully WRAS Approved

All the parts we use during installation are fully WRAS approved. WRAS stands for Water Regulations and Supply Scheme and is the nationally recognised industry benchmark. The purpose of WRAS is to contribute to the protection of public health, preventing any contamination of the public water supply. It encourages the efficient use of water by promoting and facilitating compliance with the Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations.

When we come to install, the water softener is usually fitted under the kitchen sink, where it is plumbed into the pipework that feeds the mains water supply. Although not as common, water softeners can also be installed in utility rooms, garages or even lofts. Upstairs and down, inside or out – we’ve covered the lot in our time!

Whichever entry point in your house is deemed the most suitable, we will cut into the existing pipes. From that point, hard water coming into the property is then channelled through the soft water processor, so that it emerges out of the taps around your home consistently lovely and soft. Please note, this doesn’t necessarily need to be a permanent arrangement. If you move home and wish to take your water softener with you, it’s perfectly possible for us to uninstall and reinstate the original pipework.

Options to suit your needs

Most installations we undertake would normally include the fitting of a separate drinking water tap, to give you the option of by-passing the soft water for drinking, if you so wish. Most clients feel it’s best to have the choice.

Although a little more complex, installing a water softener is like plumbing in a new washing machine. Normally, the whole process can be completed with the minimum of disruption in a morning or afternoon – but we will set aside just as long as it takes.

Above all, we will make sure your installation is handled correctly and also meets industry guidelines, issuing you with all the necessary paperwork to confirm that this has been carried out to the required WRAS standards.

Once your water softener is in place, you can enjoy all the benefits from having soft water throughout your home. And you’ll quickly wonder how you managed without it for so long!
